Pincushion Tutorial

Happy Monday everyone!

Today I am sharing a pincushion tutorial with you that I did for the lovely embroidery magazine, Hoop-la!

What you will need:

Two 5 x 5 in pieces of different fabrics. (I used two prints from 30's Playtime by Chloe's Closet, for Moda)

½ x 3 in piece of contrasting fabric for speech bubble.

Embroidery thread.

Bondaweb.

Iron.

Erasable pen.

Sewing Machine.

Toy stuffing.

Embroidery hoop.

Get all your tools together and cut the fabrics to size. Iron Bondaweb onto the wrong side of the fabric that you are using for the speech bubble. Cut the bubble out and iron onto the fabric you are using for the top of the pincushion. Use the template to draw out the outline of the speech bubble on the right side with an erasable pen.

Use the template to write 'Sew Lovely' on the speech bubble using an erasable pen.

Embroidery

Embroider the letters through both layers of fabric using backstitch, then use a different colour to embroidered around the speech bubble using the buttonhole stitch.

Pin the two pieces of fabric together, with the right sides facing each other.

Sew along the edges, about ¼ in from the edge, but leave a small opening at the bottom to insert the filling.

Clip off the corners and turn inside out, using a chopstick or pencil to push out the corners. Don't use anything that is too sharp.

Stuff your pincushion and sew the opening closed.

If you have any questions about how to make to pincushion, please feel free to ask.

Happy sewing!
